After one of my friends visited this site he noticed that I make no real mention of anything else but AMATEUR RADIO….
Well the reason for this is that …get ready for it…THIS IS AN AMATEUR RADIO BLOG!!! which translated means that:
There will be no real mention of family, (yes I have one and just for the record I have 1 wife, 3 daughters, one son in law and 3 grandkids so far), no real mention of the pets (one 95lb german shepherd and one 27 lb cat) unless they are doing something with amateur radio. The same goes for my employer and the rest of my PRIVATE LIFE!
However if I can train my dog “Toby” to wear a pack that contains my FT817 with the 2.5 amp hr gel cell and my 20m dipole for a trip into the field you will see it here along with pictures and video…
The same goes if I could train my cat “Sabre”to do anything like climb a tree with a dipole support attached to his collar the video would be posted here before UTube…
The day any one of my grandkids discovers they want to be an amateur radio operator just watch how fast the “proud grampa” starts posting things…
My wife used to be a dispatcher and so she has no shyness when it comes to radio but she also has no interest in amateur radio other than questioning my sanity at times and wondering how I manage to pay for all that stuff…
All three of my daughters have grown up with the hobby. They have assisted me on Public Service events such as marathons, they have logged for me during contests, one of my daughters even got decked out as an elf for the annual “talk to Santa event” held here in Ottawa a few years ago…But to my dismay although all 3 are comfortable with radio they prefer Chat Programs, Skype and of course their Cell Phones with Text Messages.
So if you are interested in Amateur Radio then please keep visiting….
If you are intrerested in anything else that I can’t connect somehow to Amateur Radio then you better keep on looking!

Hello Bob,
Couldn’t help but comment on how kewl it is to have a “family” of ham radio operators. Since I’m the only one in my family, find it hard at times “playing on the bands” without other others wondering why I throw my pencil in anger trying to copy code..hihi..
It would be neat to the Sabre climbing a tree in an attempt to string a G5RV ant or something along those lines.
Thanks for the chuckle this morning although I do understand the true meaning of your artilce.

Hi Burt,
To be honest there is only one actual ham in the family and thats me…however the XYL and all 3 daughters are not mike shy and to be honest some of the best operators I have ever heard. Good voices and very clear and easy to understand. My middle daughter has a fantastic ear and logs faster for me than I can…She gets every call right first time and I have to ask for fills sometimes…
I just wish that I could get any one of them to take the test….They have the experience and the knowledge….just no ambition!
As strange as it seems the hobby is not for everyone….They have to want it…
