FANTASTIC
EXCELLENT
GREAT FUN
Well if you were there did I forget anything??? I arrived around 0930 and dropped my XYL (Liz)at the main door to the arena and quickly parked the truck on the street in front of the arena (because the parking lot was full!)
Our admission was an acceptable $5.00 per person and although I normally object to paying a cover charge for the ability to spend my money at an event…This time (like most hamfests) I put up and shut up! For those of you who know me well….Yes I actually shut up!!!!
There were the usual vendors of new equipment…I think they are called dealers or commercal vendors and their support was welcomed. In turn I supported one of them with a purchase of a new 6m beam antenna which I hope to assemble and try out this weekend as I am no longer thinking of Cornwall this weekend.
One thing that amazed me was the amount of private vendors actually selling equipment that was in good shape and fairly current. The older equipment seemed to be in immaculate condition and the newer equipment was also in good shape. There were deals to be had if you were willing to spend some money… (Mental note to self… Leave wife at home next year and bring more money!!!) Lots of VHF/UHF beams and antennas along with the HF stuff as well. One thing missing was the large amounts of used COAX that one usually sees at a hamfest. Unless most of it went before I got there as the doors opened at 9am….
As you might of guessed by my comments on the full parking lot…I did see a lot of old friends there and it was a welcome trip down memory lane….Promises to email and call etc always have the best intentions and maybee this year I will remember to follow up….
I wish band conditions could/would improve so we could actually talk one night….. I ran into a lot of old friends and most of them would be concidered within range of 80m in the evenings and it would be a hoot to have a roundtable while sitting up at Cornwall one summers night….
You guys know who you are and if you find this blog entry lets try and set somthing up!
Anyways thanks to the Smith Falls Club for an excellent event and I look forward to next years event
