Antennas survived (and so did I)

By va3qv

Well the storm of the Century, Decade, Year, Month well ok yesterdays snowstorm, the first of the year has passed.  The winds were worse than the snow itself (my opinion) and I am pleased to say that the masting and the fence its attached to are still vertical.

In addition the two tree branches (front and back yards) that support the W3EDP are still attached to the trees so I am still on the air.  Both branches are a bit long and stretched out and I was honestly concerned about a wet snow fall (heavier than powder snow) along with the brisk winds doing some damage to my ability to operate HF but so far all is good.

On a personal note after two sessions of snow shovelling I am pleased to report that there were NO CHEST PAINS and I am feeling great…

On a lighter note…  Just where I have my 4:1 balun placed for the W3EDP antenna is close to a corner in my backyard fence.  This means that the wind swirls the snow in the corner and it accumulates so this morning I noticed my balun in the snow with two wires coming out of a snow drift.  The balun has been moved to just above the height of the fence so this should not happen again but it was funny to look at.  Before you ask I had not had my 2nd cup of coffee yet so the thought of a picture had not entered my mind but most of you have seen snow in the past and to be honest it looks the same especially when the quanitites are small…  Two years ago we had snow…boy did we have snow…  Check my early blog entries as well as check out these two pictures…
