Sorry to take so long posting this last segment but its just been really hectic with lots going on in my Amateur Life as well as my family life so unfortunately the blog life got slightly delayed…
But as they say “Better late than never”…
The final catagory for the show and tell was the mobile catagory and there was a very diverse group of mobiles covering lots of areas of our hobby and they did it quite well…
First we saw VE3ZZU David’s high powered APRS Mobile.
He is using the Yaesu VX8R quad band handheld into a 2m or dual band amp (can’t remember) to a dual band magmount on the roof of his car. I enjoy APRS and as you know I am a big Yaesu Fan so I loved his neat installation and as I have followed Davids beacons across Eastern Ontario I know it works fine.
Next was the mobile of VA3RXM or VE3RNM Richard.
On the outside we see a clean good antenna system and on the inside we see a dual band VHF/UHF Mobile radio and a Bearcat or Uniden Scanner (as its hard to tell them apart)..
Inside you see a very neat clean installation complete with an accessory speaker. No loose wires and everything mounted properly makes for an excellent mobile station.
Now the next mobile brings us back to a day when cars were big enough to mount radios in. Also lots of metal for antennas… And most people would know that I am describing Larry VE3WEH and his mobile. On top of being the closest thing I could find to an “official photographer” for my blog, Larry also finds the time to do some HF mobile work.
Picture courtesy VE3WEH (and its his car even)
Now if you take a close look at the picture you will see a Triple Magmount on the truck thats kinda covered up by all his mobile hamsticks for when he operates mobile HF. In addition there are two magmounts on the roof for VHF radios so in effect Larry’s car looks alot like a pincushion but if you have the room for it why not???
If you look inside you will see a Yaesu 707 hf mobile rig along with the matching Yaesu equipment of the day such as manual speaker and antenna switchs. This is a complete mobile station with the only thing missing being the matching Yaesu mobile antenna and I believe he gave that to Steve VE3SBC Now VE1SBC before Steve left Ottawa. If you look at the bottom right of the picture you would see the 2m amp that goes with Larrys HTX202 or his Yaesu VX5 for vhf work. Room for antennas and room for radios… That does not happen any more thanks to the shrinking vehicles…
So that was the meeting and the Show and Tell… There was lots to see and it was an excellent view of our hobby as it showed just about every side of it from HF to VHF, backpack portable to SUV Transportable, to HF mobile to APRS mobile. Thanks to all the participants and hopefully as the OVMRC does this every year I will see even more to write about next year…

As a final note I would really like to thank Larry VE3WEH and Maurice Andre VE3VIG for providing the graphics for the three installments of this blog posting. They say a Picture is worth a thousand words and this way I have less to type… Thanks again guys…
