Well today made it 3 days in a row where I operated Portable from Weston Park…
The band conditions were not the best but I did manage to make a couple of contacts on 40m and on 20m in the short time I could devote to playing radio today…
Contacts were made on 20 m with NF5B Richard near Memphis TN on the Maritime Mobile Service Network 14.300 as well as on the MIDCARS net on 7.258 with George K8HLJ in Vermillion Ohio. On 7,255 I managed a contact with Luke KA1SE in Wallingford CT who was the NCS for the ECARS Net that hour.
In addition I was able to check in with the YL Systems Net on 14.332 but (and your gonna laugh) but I can’t read my own handwriting on the notepad I brought to the park so I don’t know who checked me in… It was my first contact of the afternoon and after trying a few times I thought I was going to strike out for the day… When the NCS pick me up out of the pile I quickly scribbled the info and … I shoulda slowed down a bit cause now any of the calls I thought it could of been don’t jive with QRZ.com so….
.
So there you have it… I managed 4 voice QRP contacts on a day the bands were not that good. Yes all 4 of them were checking into Nets but the NCS was able to hear me and on a day like today was not too shabby for 5 W. The 817 and the Par came though again… One of these days I guess I should dust off the Buddistick and see if it still works as I know the Par works and the W3EDP works…
