A late start to the IARU contest

… I slept in…

Woke up at 830edst for a contest that started at 1200utc or 0800 edst…

By the time I fed the cats and had some coffee I had missed a bit of time but still having fun…

So far I have made 20 contacts and the breakdown is as follows:

15 contacts on 15m ssb

5 contacts on 20m ssb

14 DXCC entities

Furthest contact KH6 which is 7700 kms from Ottawa

Unfortunately with all the search and pouncing I have been doing I have not been able to add any new DXCC to my list which seems to have stalled at 134.  I did hear a few new ones in Africa and Europe but it seems the bands were not stable for them to hear my 100w with the vertical antenna.

Normally if I can hear them I can usually work them but its just a bit croweded out there and its hard to compete with 100w when there are some big guns out there.  Seeing that I’ve still got lots of time left I am hoping that this will change.

I am also kinda suprised by the results on 15m as its not a band I usually have much success with or when its open 20m is usually booming and I end up staying on 20 instead.  Very pleased (but suprised) with 15m today…

Going to take a short break for lunch and then go back and see if the bands are getting better or worse…
