It was a shock to us out here in VE6 land as well. I didn't believe it until I got the official notice to post on the NCAARC.ca website. I was also quite surprised that I was the only one that posted the formal notice of the cancellation and that it didn't make it to the official convention page.

What is the typical cost of a ticket to a hamfest? This would have been my first one to attend and I really had a hard time justifying the cost, but eventually I figured even if I didn't get a lot out of it, I would still contribute to a great hobby. I ended up registering the day before it was cancelled. Hopefully they can get things arranged and we can host it again next year.

Hi Tim...

I'm not sure about that thought... but you could be right...VE6 has a very active group of amateurs between Edmonton and Calgary....

It could be a sign of the financial times where people might just not want to travel any great distance...

Unless they held it in Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto or someother location within 5 hours transit from Ottawa on a Greyhound I would not be going so....

No matter what the reason it does not look good when the RAC National Convention is cancelled due to expected poor attendance...

Good morning Bob,

I had a look at the announcement on the ncaarc web page.

This is indeed an interesting twist of events in the continuing story of an organization called the "Radio Amateurs of Canada".

Of particular note was the phrase "low number of pre-registrants". This seems to be an indication that someone held a party and no one came or is a diversion from the real substantive problem of someone of some group starting to ask really difficult questions for which RAC did not want to answer or had no answer for.

Is this the beginning of the final chapter of the RAC? Is this the beginning of a long needed wake up call? Or, is this a case of rats starting to abandon the sinking ship?

I wonder how long under Peter (HG) has some more information on his blog on the topic.

Weill we ever know the real story or will it be mired in pseudo political spin control?

cheers, Graham ve3gtc
