So when you wake up early and can’t fall back to sleep what do you do??? This morning at 4am I was asking the question and at 5am when I was tossing and turning it came down to two things…
Olympics on TV or Ham Radio in the (cooler) shack…
Even this am the temps were close to 30 deg C and so the radio choice was a bit smarter…
Thats a distance of over 10,000 miles (short path) and 14,500 miles (long path) as as I don’t know which way his beam was pointed lets say Short path..
.
The cluster said that VK3MO was on 14.161 and they wern’t fooling… His signal was so strong that I actually though he was working the VK station rather than being the VK station. I was shocked when I heard his call and realised that he was my quest…

WOW…4 stacked 5 element 20m beams on a 200 foot rotating tower …WOW
I tossed out my call as soon as he finished with the station he was working and I got him on the first call (not 2 shabby concidereing the distance I thought) . I also gave him an honest 5/9 report and got an equally good one back… I thought it might be a bit generous on his part but after checking Ian on on QRZ it seemed fairly simple…. He has the antenna to make anyone seem strong… WOW…
And you will see what I mean…
So thats how the day started… and it might even get a bit better as Jose VA3PCJ and myself are thinking of letting the 703 and the 817 out for some fresh air later today if the storms decide not to visit…
