This time I had to fight for it….
Earlier today I heard VP8LC on 12m usb. Now I don’t usually do much on 12m and 10m but seeing as I needed the Falkland Islands on any band and I could hear Bob … It was time to try…. My vertical seems to be missing a bit on 10m and 12m and only really starts to perform once I get to 15m.
The DX Ghod was not on my side and I gave up after about 45 minutes of screaming my call every time Bob called “QRZ?”
Later in the afternoon I looked at the cluster and saw he was still giving away contacts on 12m and I tried again….
And this time I made it so… according to my log DXCC #139 (unconfirmed) is now a reality…
It was hard work and it took most of the afternoon (on and off) but I finally got him…
That would also be a distance of approximately 11,000 kms (almost due south) or 6800 miles as the crow flies which ain’t too shabby for 100 w and a vertical…
It made my weekend…

That’s awesome Bob, I also had a nice QSO on the weekend I was running Portable and got ZL2WL Wayne from New Zeland in the log I was running 20 watts on 20M into a dipole at about 12feet and he couldn’t hear me so I bumped up the power to 60W and he heard me then gave me a 3×1, I gave him a a 5×7. I was extatic all morning.

Congrats on the ZL…. Nice one to get portable… Were you using your FT100 or did you get a new rig?

Congrats Bob, very nice you made it after such a long try. It’s not always easy to break a pile-up. Sometimes you can get the QSO within a hour and if your out of luck it could last days or sometimes not at all. This must be very rewarding…now waiting for the confirmation QSL. 73, Bas

Bas and Bill….
Thanks… This one was work… i gotta figure out a way to get more radials out for the higher bands… The antenna is lacking a bit on 10-12-15 but on 17-20-40-80 its just a fantastic antenna… Has to be the radial pattern or the amount of radials…

Bob,
From the reading I’ve been doing I don’t think it’s the radial pattern that matters. It’s the number of radials laid out….it’s not even the length.
I’ll bring you some reading materialto Chilicon.
