I see that the forecast is not encouraging for a hill top adventure on Saturday.

My grandson and I where planning on doing a bit of exploring on the Ontario side of the river North or Carp after shopping for bargoons. I could bring the 817 along and if you on we could try for a contact on 2 and 70, I will have only a 2/70 mag mount vertical antenna but it should be very easy from Champlain Lookout to anywhere near Carp.

cheers, Graham ve3gtc

Hi Graham...

I was kinda forced to go the LoTW route... Paper QSL returns were very low and EQSL (great return rate) not accepted for any ARRL awards like DXCC and WAS. I am hoping that LoTW will have a good return rate...

I will continue to send an EQSL out with every contact as I use HRD for logging and my HRD account is linked automaticaly to my EQSL Account so... every time I log a contact... it also sends out an eqsl...

As far as Carp goes.... It might be a bad weather attending thing but as I am booked to head up to the Champlain Lookout with VE3EMB for a QRP ARRL VHF Contest attempt I don't think I will be at Carp. The plan is to operate with his KX3 and his 6m buddipole beam on 6m and my FT817 with my arrow dual band beam on 2m and 70cm ...

But if the WX turns bad as we don't plan on taking up tents... could end up in Carp instead... It will be a last minute thing though...

Hope you have fun at Carp and get lots of bargoons....

Good morning Bob,

Glad to see you took the plunge, It is not as difficult to get set up on LoTW as many believe; just a bit more time consuming than EQSL.I have been using LoTW for nearly two years, long before I got set up on EQSL. I prefer LoTW and only use EQSL for those that prefer it. To each his or her own. I do understand the trepidation many feel towards getting registered on LoTW. I always thought it was a bit too complicated but in the end it really was quick and painless.

I upload my log to LoTW within an hour or so of the completion of any contest I may have played in on any given weekend. EQSL sometime later. Many other contest ops do the same.

You may be surprised and you will get your answer from the ARRL well before the end of the month. If you registered online and they have your email address you will get an email with the required information not a postcard. it is too bad that they don't have a method where you could scan and email the required documentation or perhaps work out some method with the RAC to provided electronic confirmation of licencing (etc) for Canadian Amateurs.

See you Saturday in Carp.

cheers, Graham ve3gtc
