Today was a bit of a rarity for me… 10m DX… managed to get various parts of Europe in the log… The areas were not rare but any contacts on 10m for me seem to be rare…
I’m not sure why…. Perhaps the fact that 10m is not open as often as the other bands… So I forget to check 10m when I can make easy contacts on 15 and 20m… I’m not sure….
Then suddenly it came to me….
My first HF rig was an old Atlas 180

Pictured Above
Then take a quick look at the picture and look at the available bands…
NO 10M and NO WARC Bands
Maybe that the reason… My first HF rig did not have 10m… Maybe its a mental block… When I was first in the hobby 10m just did not exist for me and perhaps that has scarred me for life…
Well thats the best excuse I can think of… In reality I think its that the 10m band although good, is not open on a regular basis so I tend to forget about it… The log (my log) shows lots of DX contacts on 20m… 15m… 40m… and even a few on 10m, 17m and 12m .

But I might get away with the radio excuse as my worst bands are 12,17, and 10m and NONE of them were on the old Atlas 180…
Like I said…. It was the best excuse I could think of …
