This weekend will be a busy one for the ARES organisation in Ontario this weekend. The Provincial SET (Simulated Emergency Test) for ARES is being held on this Saturday. You might hear some strange traffic on your local repeaters and if the band conditions clear up you should also hear the same style of strange traffic on 80m around 3.745 or on 40m around 7.153 depending on the band conditions.
They will also be using the IRLP systems/resources as well so if your local repeater is so equipped you might also hear strange callsigns this Saturday as well…
Ottawa ARES will not be directly participating on Saturday but we will be running a 3 part exercise on Sunday so again you might hear some voices on the EMRG (City of Ottawa Emergency Measures Radio Group )repeaters that you don’t usually hear…
.
As all exercises are supposed to be a “learning experience” for both the participants and the organisers there is no doubt in my mind that everyone will be better educated after the SET.
