So whats happening on 60m??

Did I miss something???

I remember that IC was allowing us to apply for experimental Licences for the 60m band… I also remember hearing that lots sending in their applications….

I also remember listening ( cause I did not apply) to Russ causing one heck of a pile up once a Canadian Station was spotted on the cluster but I have heard little since…

Also seem to have missed all those who took the time to apply telling us  about the great conditions on this new band.  Has this turned into a non event?

Just to refresh your memory…

    Good day Bob,

Indeed, an interesting question. I was just wondering the same thing.

I have been trying, unsuccessfully, to copy one of the several 60m beacons in the UK. I do hear from time to time some activity from the US and as winter approaches and I am trying to finish up some antenna projects, I have been pondering if I should try and put something up more suitable for 60m.

    cheers, Graham ve3gtc

    Hi Graham…

I just find it strange that “someone” in VX Land is not telling us how much fun we are missing or how great it was on the ARES SET which has just past us….

After all our whinning and B!tching was this a “non event” for Canadian Amateur Radio?

    or…..

Are we all just cheap old buzzards who will wait till we get it approved for amateur use rather than experimental to save the cost of an experimental lic?

Bob, I was one who submitted a request for an experimental license. It was faxed off and not a peep was heard from IC after that….so I just let things drop, and like you, I will wait for it to be granted to us all.

        I dunno Bill….

After all the fuss… all the secrecy about the experimental privs…. I sure thought by now that someone would be giving us a play by play on how great the new band was for EMCOMM or whatever…

I’m hoping that no news is good news…

Hopefully 60m won’t become an ‘ARES’ band – what a waste.

    • VA3QV Says:

However by its design and setup 60m is a perfect example of what an “EMCOMM” band should be. Defined channels, good propagation qualities and perhaps could simplify the 40m in the daytime and 80m at nite practices we have been using for years for short range and intermediate range.
Although in this day and age HF is not a popular operating medium for most ARES/EMCOMM groups

What are the local groups in your part of the province using mostly?
