While sitting in the shack waiting for some pics from the JOTA event at Apple Hill Ontario to be sent to me so I can share them with you I decided to look through and compare my results with EQSL and Logbook of The World.
So far on EQSL I have logged 1673 contacts and received 675 returns for a return rate of 40.34 %
So far on LoTW I have logged 1483 contacts and received 547 returns for a return rate of 36.88%
As you can see the results favour EQSL slightly. I believe the reason for that is because its so darn easy to send out an EQSL. I use Ham Radio Deluxe as my logging program and I have HRD set up to send out an EQSL with every contact I log. Its just that simple to use… The FREE service offered by EQSL probally does not hurt either. When I mention to stations I use both EQSL and LoTW I do get some comments about why use EQSL as the ARRL does not accept their results for the various awards programs…
But now lets look at DXCC returns…. (Confirmed DXCC Entities)
On EQSL I have 142 DXCC entities in the log with a return rate of 66 confirmed for a percentage of 46.75%

Using LoTW I have 142 DXCC entities in the log with a return rate of 94 confirmed for a percentage of 67.14%

Now this is looking a bit better…. but then I notice that most of my DXCC returns are from DXPeditions and “Big Gun Stations” on LoTW. The individual operators (average guys) don’t seem to be on LoTW as much (but they will EQSL) and if you check them on QRZ.com they still seem to be direct or via the bureau….

Personally I wish that the ARRL and EQSL would play nicely and accept eachothers results for awards… When you look at my WAS results I have 3 states confirmed on EQSL that I do not have confirmed on LoTW…
But for now I just make the contacts and send out EQSLs and upload to LoTW and one of these days someone will tell me I have qualified for some sort of award…
In the meantime have fun and chase some DX and play some radio

And if you are looking for the JOTA Report it should be posted later today or early Monday am…

Interesting results, and that’s pretty much the same results I am getting. I upload to both, but like the eQsl log better. You have the right idea…upload to both and maybe someday one or the other will result in an award.

Keith… thanks for the visit and the comments…. also Merry Christmas…..
In a perfect world EQSL would be more secure (which would keep the ARRL happy) and LoTW would be faster (and used by more hams) which would keep us happy…
In the meantime my ARRL DXCC certificate will be sitting beside my EQSL DXCC certificate on the mantle once they arrive later in the New Year…
