Now me listening to this net during a Hurricane situation is nothing new but be listening to the Net on 7.268 is different for me. Its also the first time that I would concider myself in what will be the “Affected Area” as they are expecting the remains of Hurricane Sandy to cause some issues in Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec starting late on Wednesday…
So here are the FREQUENCIES for the Hurricane Watch Net:
.
20m___14.325 USB
40m___7.268 LSB
80m___3.950 LSB
.
The HWN passes information to the National Hurricane Center which is part of the National Weather Service of the US Govt. They in turn share that information with the Canadian Hurricane Center if needed as well as issuing forcasts to the General Public and the Broadcast Industry and other concerned organisations.
At this time (1845utc) there are nets running on 20m and on 40m. If there is anything happening on the 80m frequency I can’t hear it yet. I am expecting that there will be some activity on 80m later this evening when 40 starts to go long
There is also an IRLP/ECHOLINK WX Net running on the Internet based linked Repeater sytem and if you follow the link shown you can find out more information there…
PLEASE REMEMBER TO… LISTEN… LISTEN… LISTEN…
The Nets listed here are Operational Nets…
PLEASE DON”T Check in unless you have something to offer the net. This is not a ragchew net and they don’t need “Another bean for the pot”.
Please feel free to listen and observe… but they need a clear frequency to conduct Net Operations. If the NCS has things under control they might call for general checkins and then you are welcome to let them know you are listening.
Feel free to jump in with a RELAY if you hear someone trying to check in on HF that no one else seems to hear. The word RELAY followed by your callsign should suffice. If the NCS can’t hear you then someone else will RELAY you in… (on IRLP/ECHOLINK remember that its a giant linked repeater so everyone should hear everyone else. Remember to pause after keying up so the network can get all the linked repeaters to talk and listen as they activate)
ABOVE ALL ELSE FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS OF THE NET CONTROL STATION
PLEASE REMEMBER TO… LISTEN… LISTEN… LISTEN…
Happy Monitoring…
