This morning I managed to get 2 new ones in the log for my QRP SSB DXCC. The FT817 worked well with the S9 43 foot vertical antenna and the 17m band was cooperating…
First in the log was YO3CZW Marius in Romania whose fantastic station had enough receive to hear my 5w signal …. He gave me a 5/9 report but I think everyone was 5/9… Marius lives in Bucharest and after looking at his beams its easy to see why he heard my signals at a distance of just over 4600 miles. That also could explain the 5/9 report I got…

Next was RA3QK Alex in Russia and again with a powerful station that gave me an honest 5/5 report and I gave him a 5/8 in return. Alex lives outside of Moscow and this was a contact of just under 4500 miles which is not too shabby for a QRP station. Not much info on Alex on QRZ so its hard to say much else other than he had a great signal…

Those two contacts were #39 and #40 in my quest for the QRP SSB DXCC award. QRP DXCC is hard enough with Digital or CW and trying in SSB is not the easiest thing I have tried in the hobby but I think it will be obtainable…
More in a few days… (I hope)

Goog luck, I am trying to get the DXCC in low power as well, 51 entities so far, but it’s easier here in Europe.
And to prove that this is a small world,Marius YO3CZW lives just a few kilometers from me
