Saturdays update

August 30, 2009

Well 20m was the band today….  Just not where I wanted it to go but it was fun anyway….

I missed the Amateur Radio Portable Operations Group Birthday Bash as to be honest there just was no conditions from Ottawa ON to Tuscon AZ.

I heard VE7 and worked N7RO/p who was activating an Island (IOTA NA 169) in Washington State but nothing going South west…

Now as everyone knows 20m is not my band of choice and I’m not really a big DXer but today….WOW…..

Picked up my third contact with W9IMS (3 contacts in 3 race weekends = an award) along with a few contacts in the Kansas QSO Party…

I also managed contacts in Poland, France, the Netherlands, Denmark, Russia, Slovenia, Spain, Romania and the island of Cyprus.

By my paper logs that was 13 contacts, 10 countries, and 3 states so it was not that bad for 100w and a dipole at 20 feet above ground…

So as you can see the bands were open… which made for an interesting afternoon indoors as Tropical Storm (never made it to a hurricane) Danny kept us very damp all day today….
