This one is almost upon us…
This event runs from February 12 to February 14th (inclusive) but it you are in a RV you can start camping on site on the afternoon of February 10th for only $25.00 per nite with water and limited electricity.
You talk about a hamfest that makes sense and would be easy to convince the XYL that you should both go to… Florida in the winter time… There are at least two local Ottawa Hams I know of who have included this event into their winter holiday plans and I wish I was one of them… I have been to Orlando in the past but was never able to fit it into the schedule that matched things up with the Hamcation…
If you check the above map you will see that Orlando is only a short 22 hour drive from Ottawa so if I was to leave on the Monday Morning I would arrive at the Fairgrounds on the Wednesday just in time to get set up at the RV Camping on the Grounds Area. I would then have a day to get ready for the event and start on Friday at the Hamcation. Leaving Monday morning for the coast as Liz always enjoys the Coco Beach area and the NASA sites around Cape Canaveral would square us in the trade off for starting at the Hamcation in the first place.
Well it ain’t going to happen in 2010 because I am writing this from Ottawa and not the “Flying J” parking lot with their Free WIFI while we fuel but it is something I am seriously going to think about next year… We have been talking about acquiring either a small slide in camper for a pick up truck or a small class B (Van Body) Camper and this could convince both of us (for different reasons) to finally take the plunge…

the past we have owned a couple of Class B and van conversions along with one Slide in and several tent trailers so the thought is not completely foreign to us…

Recently as you know we had the big 30 foot park model in Cornwall and now nothing… but that could change…
(I should mention that due to the family budget we would not be buying new but the units would look like the units above… Just not as new…)
I am looking forward to the reports about how things went at Orlando when the guys return from their winter vacations.
