Happy Sunday….Today is the middle of the Canadian Thanksgiving Long Weekend….
Yesterday saw me head over to the local Walmart and pick up 20 litres of Plumbing Antifreeze in anticipation for today’s trip to Cornwall to finish the winterizing of the trailer…
Yesterday also saw our Thanksgiving dinner as Erika has to work Sunday and Monday evening so Saturday was the only day we ALL could agree on for free time… Tasty but…. I have a feeling I will be (or should) spending more time walking the neighborhood as I think I put on about 5 lbs that I should be dropping instead…This year I seemed NOT to drop the weight like I usually do in the summer so I am dreading this winter already… Normally I turn into a couch potato in the winter and put the weight back on I lost all summer….This year this could be a “weighty” problem…
Sunday morning found me in the shack checking in to the ONTARS Net on 3.755 with Norm VE3NLH who lives in Engelhart Ontario. I hope to do the regular check in to the North Bay Net at 0900 and between 9 and 10 leave for Cornwall with Liz…If I can keep on time then I will be checking in to the 80m Porthole Net which starts at 10am as VA3QV/m and see how long I can keep the propagation for…
There will be some 40m and 80m mobile stuff done on the way back along with 2m FM but not sure what frequencies or repeaters will be used….Depends on where I hear the activity….
Hurricane Norbert arrived and was a “NON EVENT” as far as monitoring Radio Frequencies went. I did hear some traffic on the Hurricane Watch Net frequency of 14.325 but the signals were weak and hard to copy. The VOIP Hurricane Net was active on ECHOLINK/IRLP linked system but it seems there were not many station in the effected area that had VOIP Amateur communications. They did have some relayed information in from some 40M Nets in the area but…. I think this proves the system works but you have to have stations inputing Data to the net for it to work well… Both groups did a good job… It just would of been easier to listen to if they had more stations contributing…. This begs for us to ask the question “If an emergency happens where no one is around to report it…Is it an emergency?”… This one is kinda like the “If a tree falls in the forest and no one hears it…Did it make a sound???
The Graphics on Norbert are here…
Tropical Storm Odile has given the Mexican Coast some winds and storms but now shows it heading out to Sea…This will shortly end the warning should be dropped…
The Graphics on Odile are here…
Thats about it for now…I will post on the rest of the days events after Liz and I get back from Cornwall….
