Norbert first, then Odile

October 10, 2008

Well if you follow the small amount of coverage being given….Hurricane Norbert  will be arriving over the BAJA on Saturday and then after making landfall will be downgraded to a tropical storm and heading north east on a general heading towards EL PASO TEXASNow to be shamefully honest my knowledge of Mexican Geography is not the best… But if the size of the dots on the Google Map means anthing there are a couple of larger centers that could be in the path of Norbert after it arrives on Mexican soil…  I hope the people are prepared….

Then comes Odile…

Right now Odile can’t seem to decide where it wants to go as the projections show it running northbound along the coast…  By the middle of next week it should be passing by the BAJA Peninsula who already got hit with Norbert earlier….Then where will it go….  The projections turn into “Best Guess” after that…

Now its way to early go start forcasting so lets just go with what limited data we have…  Right now Odile is heading Northbound along the coast (Northwest)…  If it continues Northwest then the California Coast is going to get wet… If it takes a jog to the NORTH or the NORTHEAST… Then there is a chance it will become news…

PLEASE REMEMBER I AM NOT A WEATHER FORCASTER AND THAT ALL I AM DOING IS GIVING YOU SOME BASIC UN SCIENTIFIC BACKGROUND INFORMATION SO YOU CAN DO FURTHER RESEARCH ON THE TOPIC SO YOU CAN DRAW YOUR OWN CONCLUSIONS.  LIKE I SAID EARLIER THIS IS MOSTLY “BEST GUESS”.  DO YOUR HOMEWORK AND MAKE YOUR PLANS ACCORDINGLY!!!

At this time I have no information on Emergency Frequencies or requests for clear frequencies in advance of either hurricane….  I know that from Ottawa I have no problems hearing spanish speaking stations (as I don’t speak spanish I’m not sure where they are from) on the lower end of 40m (7.040 and up) and in mixed areas on 20m for most of the daytime hours… Its a good place to start listening…

Norbert and Odile are coming…

October 9, 2008

But so far this Blog seems to be one of the only places you will find mention of them…

These two HURRICANES are currently in the Eastern Pacific with Norbert expected to make landfall over the BAJA Peninsula on Saturday morning and Odile heading north towards the Baja with no landfall predicted yet.

There is no point making my normal comments about news…You could go back and read my post from October 8th if you like…

I’m just wondering when it will become news…

Still no word on frequency allocations from any of the Amateur Organisations…

The first (Norbert) will make landfall on Saturday…Today’s Thursday….Thats only two days away!!

Question for the day

October 8, 2008

The answer to todays question is…A hurricane hitting Mexico

Todays question is… What gets less media coverage than a hurricane hitting Atlantic Canada???

Now with this question and its answer I am not “dissing”  Mexico but rather questioning why a disaster about to happen is only news if it hits America…

As  soon as Kyle decided not to visit Maine it seemed to be quickly NO LONGER NEWS…

If you are looking for Hurricane Norbert you better look hard because although the National Hurricane Center lets us know it should hit the Baja Peninsula of Mexico early Saturday Morning as far as I can tell thats the only news you will find.  I’m guessing that once it lands the Ghouls will be there with the videos of the suffering and deceased….

Now it also seems that there is no planned Amateur Radio Response for this as well.  Now of course the ARRL and RAC would have nothing to do officially as this would be the domain of the Mexican Goverment and whatever their national amateur radio organisation would do…  I just thought a request for clear frequencies would be coming out by now…

Or is this just a “non event”?
