Results in from the 2012 Ontario QSO Party

June 14, 2012

Well this seems like a day for contesting…

Found out the the Ontario QSO Party (Contest Club Ontario) results posted on their webpage today…  I draw your attention to the following:

If you refer back to my blog posting of April 23rd 2012

You would get a gentle reminder that VA3PCJ, VA2EPR and myself (VA3QV) headed up to Foymount Ontario to operate QRP for the Ontario QSO Party from Foymount Ontario…

Not only did it seem that we were the only 3 QRP Operators in Renfrew but it also seems that we were the only 3 Operators in Renfrew County because according to the final results (as follows):

Renfrew County

VA3PCJ— REN SOQRP — 741 points

VA3QV — REN SOQRP —  432 points

VA2EPR/VE3—  REN SOQRP—  110 points

So there you have it…  What I would call a very successful mini DXPedition.  Three guys drive up the side of a mountain in a freezing rain/snow/rain storm and operate for a couple of hours and manage to sweep the top three places in our catagory.  (To be honest we were most likely  the only three who competed in our catagory but the first way sounds better to me…)

Here is a link to the results

Now if we were to take it one small step further and you look through the results again you will notice that VA3RCS (the call I operated on the Sunday from Ottawa) managed to finish 13th out of 33 in Single Operator Low Power Phone catagory and as silly as it seems (with a single day score of  1680 pts) was also enough to be 1st in the City of Ottawa in the Single Operator Low Power Phone catagory.  This has to prove that not enough people are submitting their logs…

So the moral of the story for all of you is that if you don’t submit your logs you can’t win and if you do submit your score you can be happily suprised at times…

Once again thanks to the Contest Club Ontario for running the contest and to all those who were there to give me the few contacts that I did get…

End of first day for OQP

April 19, 2009

Well the first 10 hours were a “hoot” so lets take a look back at what I thought my goals would be for this contest…

Have fun…

So far the contest has been great fun!!! So its one down and  three to go…

Have a final score that is in the top half of the score sheet for the catagory I am entered in .

This one will take a bit of time to figure out…  As it stands right now my score is 2100 points and last year the highest score in Ottawa was 3000 points.  Not sure at this time as I will have to wait and see what everyone elses score was…

I would expect to work stations on all bands 2/6/10/15/20/40/80 and 160.

So far contacts have been made on 2/6/40/80/160 with 10/15/20 eluding me at this time.  If I am able to participate tomorrow I should make an honest contact on 20 and most likely be able to run the remaining two bands on groundwave…

I am looking forward to my FIRST 160m contact.

DONE… VE3WIB just outside of Hawksbury Ontario is my first 160m contact

So looking at my goals we have completed 2.5 out of 4.  The chances of my score being on the plus side is a fairly sure thing and I know I will be able to make contacts on the missing bands tomorrow before things close down so  once we can guesstimate the final tally being 4 for 4…

Therefore the early predictions are for a success….
