The quest for knowledge

Since hearing about the 60m licence awarded to Russ VX9GHD (VE3FI) I have been patiently waiting for someone to make some sort of announcement with the details…  So far I have seen info on QRZ.com which I have posted here and my fellow bloggers VE3CLQ and VE3HG have also commented on it.

As of right now (0845 on Apr 5th) there appears to be nothing on the RAC website about this what so ever.  Not to blame RAC on this one as the RAQI website seens to have nothing on this either (if I can trust my limited knowledge of French.)

The only thing for sure right now that I can tell you is that I have heard Russ active on 60m using his VX9GHD call and he was making lots of contacts…

There is an old saying that “Knowledge is Power” and right now it seems that no one wants to share the power…  Someone has to know whats going on (besides Russ) and I am guessing that like myself some of you are wondering when we are going to be notified by anyone official on whats actually going on…

In an attempt to find out…  after surfing the IC site I decided to send an email out to the Feds asking for some info on this topic.  I would expect a few days for them to get the data needed for an informative reply and as we are coming into a 4 day long weekend I hope to get a response from them next week.  Once that happens I promise to share it with you…

Perhaps now someone will “Share the power”

RAQI Balloon Launch Sunday

The following came in via an email list that I subscribe to and I thought I would share it with you .

Sunday morning, July 11, 2010, at around 9:00 am BRAQ will launch another high altitude ballon.

This email has been sent to Clubs from Ontario,  Québec, Maritimes and North-East of the USA, hoping that a large number of amateurs will be able to establish QSO

The main payload will consist in a VHF-UHF crossband repeater available to the amateur community while airborne.

THE FREQUENCIES AS BEEN CHANGED

The repeater input frequency is 445.525 Mhz with a tone of 103.5 Hz and the ouptput frequency is 145.560 Mhz. The power output of the repeater should be around .5 watts

This will be a  bilingual (French and English) directed net and net control with be  Gerry VE2AW. Check-ins are invited to use the phonetic alphabet and then will be required to provide their nickname and location (QTH).  A commemorative QSL card will be issued to all stations which are confirmed by the net control station.
